Time moves on and styles change, traditions evolve and fade away; but a good chair or basket can last for generations.
CHAIRS
I saved my first chair, a woman's Lincoln rocker, in 1975. I've been weaving customers' chairs for about 10 years. One of my customers once said I'm saving America one chair at a time.
I work with pressed cane, standard and fancy hand cane; Danish cord; natural hand twisted, pre twisted, and fibre rush; Shaker tape and splint in various patterns; as well as wicker repairs.
BASKETS
I weave baskets to explore the elements of form, function, color and texture. Throughout time baskets have been made of available materials; and therefore I incorporate today's materials into my baskets.
I am not seeking to mass produce nice baskets. I want to create interesting, unusual yet familiar, perhaps funky, perhaps beautiful baskets that are a pleasure to look at, to touch, and to use.
Each is unique, signed and dated.
